The Lakemba War Memorial stands as a quiet tribute to those who served and sacrificed in conflicts involving Australia.
Located on a small lawn next to Lakemba Railway Station, the monument features a broken granite column atop a sandstone base—a powerful symbol of sacrifice.
A brass plaque set in an arched niche commemorates the fallen and two flagpoles frame the memorial within a landscaped garden that stretches toward Haldon Street.
Unveiled in 1953 by the Governor of NSW, it’s a thoughtful reminder of courage and service.
The surrounding greenery, including plants along the fence line, makes it a peaceful spot to reflect. It’s easy to visit, accessible and an important piece of Lakemba’s history for locals and visitors alike.
