Our City is home to three awesome rivers: the Cooks, Georges and Duck River. Each one’s unique but all play a key role in our local ecosystem.

The Cooks River is a major player in Australia’s waterways and has supported industries like Canterbury Sugarworks. While its history is rich, the river’s natural environment keeps improving. You’ll find events that explore and help clean it up below.

The Georges River is a biodiversity hotspot, stretching from its headwaters in Dharawal Nature Reserve to its tidal sections near us. It’s home to 454 species of animals and 29 endangered plants.

The Duck River is the smallest of the bunch, but it’s being improved with projects like the naturalised wetland at Maluga Park.

From March to May, check out events celebrating our rivers!
